The photographs above are a selection of images taken around the school which I took as a starting point for my experiment in order to create a Naoya Hatakeyama inspired piece. I wanted to photographs which captured an outdoors safety theme and a nature theme i did this because i wanted to see if i was good at it
Paul Strand
light and line photos/evaluation |
Paul strands photos are a focus/tone theme because he focuses on peoples upper body's and the tone of their faces using the close ups on these people.
Light and line These three photos from Paul Strand represent my theme because I am focusing on line and these photo shows different interpretation of lines. |
Paul strand useses a close ups on people's faces and top half of their body to show different facial expressions and body language to show difference of the social status from the year he was from and were he was from in new york, some of the images are in black and white the difference this makes i quite big i makes the person looking at the image may say this is and old image maybe from the 1920's/1930's. The contrast of this image is still and organised this mean they are posing or by looking at their faces they could have been cached of guard, in this images i think Paul Strand is quite close up in their face but never crouches because he only want to get the top half of their body's

It helped having a focused theme because light and line is very a interesting topic, with my photos i didn't compose all of them but i captured most of them i only composed one of them, the last one on the right is the one i composed this is the one that worked the best for me because it used both of my themes very distinctively with the lines using his body and the stair well and the light shinning of the sun through his body, it helped that i composed it myself because it made the picture work more suitable. The one for me that didn't work as well for my was the third one because the way i captured it in this angle made the photo quite bland and pointless, to me the rest of my photos show a story behind them. The first one shows at story of a king , queen and a prince looking over a kingdom because the way its framed and the three lines are quite long so it shows them standing tall. the second one to me shows a cage that tames a wild animal because the space between the panels are quite close together like a cage and the lines are long and skinny but well built. The fourth one to me tells a story about two guards blocking a building because the way they have been pushed up next to each other looks like they have been out their to block something or it could be tow human beings leaning up against each other in perfect balance and if one of them fall they both fall.

With these images I have focused on two of the formal elements which is light and line, I found a few of them successful as they focus just on the line and light. I chose to take this images because i am focussing on line at light my favourite image is the one of the zebra crossing because that photo focusses purely on light and line and the way i captured it in the morning when its still dark and the way the light shined of the white paint i could improve this photo by
the one on the top i could improve this by zooming in more and cutting out the foreground because its to distracting from the formal elements but the the angle of it is very spread out the second one i could improve by using depth of felid by making the the background more focused and the foreground less focused but the tiny dots of light from cars make this photo line and light.

Francesca woodman
the medium of her work is vintage black and white photos she dose not use colours so the people that see her photos do not get distracted from the main part of the photo. In the top left you can see line and triangles in this photo because it seems like they are mimicking each other and you can see the chair in the middle the top of the back board has a triangle in it. In most of her photos you can tell she has composed them, the photos she has taken are light in texture.
the photo in the left top corner is a photo with Francesca and her dad this photo was taken in 1980 and in there London flat, the next photo was taken in Italy in 1977 on the streets of Italy thirdly this photo was taken in 1976 in Rhode island, the one after that dose not say were or when it only says it was from Francesca woodman, finally this is a photo of Francesca woodman spinning in a circle but it dose not tell us where or when. this photos represent the history of the time because their talking about woman's rights because even though woman had the right to vote and do the stuff men where aloud to do dose not mean the where respected or welcomed the same and i think these photos show this clearly. In this photo their is nothing going on but there is a hand over Francesca woodman's chest and her hands are up in the air to show no control the texture in this is quite dark this is a good affect because the subject they are relating to is a dark subject, this makes me feel quite affect by this because it shows that the woman have no control over how the rapist touches their body, for me the colour and the texture have a big effect on this photo. paul strand |
Paul strand work was based around vintage characterisation from the highest richness and the poor he also focusses on subject matters and stoical status Paul strand uses a vintage or black and white colour scheme to give them an older vibe and it makes the photo more attractive also with his photos he makes it lighter at the top of the photo and darker at the bottom and he always puts his photos in portrait so you can all of the person e.g their body language and their facial expressions.
My favourite image from him is the third one because it shows social status levels and age for me this makes a good photo because it makes certain things stand out and more interesting |
my personal photos
|
Gottfried jagerto me mine and Gottfried jager's photos look the same in a way of the way we have composed them using line and light and were they are quite simple and uncomplicated but he as used elegant angle to take this photos he has also used a black and white theme to keep it simple.
|
Gottfried jager is and Inspiration to me because he has made a elegant and eye catching photo just by folding some paper and using different angles and themes, this as made me think i could use small objects for my next experiment and different angles to make a photo more eye catching and i could change the scene from out side to in the class room or in a room
|
this is my favourite image from Jager because he has made a simple box or paper and made a eye catching image just by using the light of the sun and a half cut box he has made and image to me witch could be representation of some people when the lose there home the contrast of it is not to exposed and not to exposed i like the way he has done this because its not to complicated and there is nothing going on in the image so its not distracting for the people who look at it but not so bland so you get bored its just simple and that is why i like this image.
my final piece's
when we first started the topic we had to chose and artist and research about them and their photos and also had to say what abstraction is to us i said abstract means something that is not very realistic and has no meaning behind it but sometimes it makes scenes i found the topic quite easy but on some parts it was hard such as what to take a photo of and how to use light and line also how to contrast these kinds of photos. On two of my photos i used and app i can not remember what it was called but it was effective in a way were the photo looked abstract, the types of formal elements i used was light and line
